From YouTube to My Mac and iTunes

Posted on May 23, 2009 by admin

Couple of months ago YouTube introduced a download function to its service. However, there are at least two interesting tools for Mac that help you to browse, download and even to convert videos for future use on your iPod.

MacTubes

One of my favorites is an application called MacTubes. Application provides a nice interface that allows you to view available videos  in the list view or thumbnail view (which recalls some iTunes). You can save videos to a selected folder, and you can choose one of the available recording formats (such as HD). After downloading there

Here is the search list for the videos of my band – Artrosis:

Tooble:

Tooble enables you to view YouTube content in each category and search for specific videos or artists. The role of the program is to find interesting videos and selected them, download to disk and then convert and add them to your iTunes library. You can choose to download video in the original resolution, or adjusted to the size of the iPod screen.

Well, the program fulfills its task, but it lacks some basic features like a preview before downloading. In my opinion, at this stage it lost a confrontation with MacTubes, although it does not mean that it does not find its followers.
