Miro – a podcast harvester for Mac OS X

There is no need to convince anyone that the Internet (podcasts in particular) is a killer of traditional Television. So far I watched particular podcasts mainly through the web sites. It is possible to watch and subscribe to podcasts in iTunes, but application refuses to cooperate by displaying a message that podcasts are not available for my country (ie Poland). The problem stems from the fact that I have an account in the Polish iTunes / Appstore, and podcast division is not yet available for my country. In that case, the solution is the very handy podcast harvester – Miro by Participatory Culture Foundation.

Miro is a kind of  podcasts’ channels and video receiver from popular sites like YouTube, Google Videos and others. The number of available channels is almost 6000. The application is easy to use and its interface is transparent. We can find the particular channels using a special guide that reminds to some extent, the iTunes Store.

The left panel of the application is intended to the list of subscribed, new and currently levied podcasts, while the main window presents a list of available episodes, together with information on the status of the collection and available options of archiving (removal, maintenance or permanent removal after a specified period – 5 days by default). In the main window also the podcasts are displayed. Their quality varies, but quite a large amount of them are movies in high definition of very good quality.

We can watch the podcasts in the full screen mode

For your convenience, Miro suggest to be run together with the start of the system to automatically download episodes of the subscribed podcasts for the further use.

MacKozer, to subscribe to any podcast it’s enough to change a country (just for the time needed for subscription) on a iTunes Store’s main page.
