OSXP Folders – folder view in Windows XP style for Mac OS X

If any of you miss the way Windows XP shows picture folders in the thumbnail view mode of Windows Explorer, you can get it easily on your Mac with the Mac OS X plugin OSXP Folders by Kirk Bonner. I dare say, this plugin mixes two philosophies – the one of Apple originated in Cupertino with that one from Redmond.

Looks, well, interesting! Unfortunately it only works on Mac OSX 10.5, so I will have to wait until I update my computer…
But, at this stage I have been using my iMac for almost 3 years without any major grief, and actually, very little minor grief either – as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Thanks!! I’ve been looking for this. I’ve been a PC user my entire life, but switched to Mac recently. There are only two major quirks with file browsing in OSX that really Really REALLY bug me. This was one of them. Being able to see the thumbnails of the images within a folder on the folder icon helps browsing SO MUCH!!! I can’t believe Mac’s software designers let this slide.
The only other nuisance is when you click into a folder and then go back, you lose your spot. In XP when you click back in the file browser, it keeps the folder you were just in at the center of the screen and highlighted. This makes sense because usually when you click back, it means that you didn’t find what you were looking for and its very likely that you’ll want to look in the folders nearby, and also this ensures you don’t accidentally click into that same folder again if you weren’t really paying attention to exactly which folder you were just in.
This is pretty interesting and I suppose it serves a need for some folks. I’m reverting to standard folder view–I’m not seeing my folders and thinking they are documents.
